Workshops & Classes

There are so many ways to experience clay at the Stuart Glassman Clay Studio! Whether you are trying pottery for the first time, looking for a creative night out, or ready to grow your ceramic skills, we offer classes and workshops for every experience level.

5-Week Group Classes

Our popular multi-week classes provide a welcoming and supportive environment where students build skills week by week while becoming part of our creative clay community.

Beginner Wheel Throwing

Perfect for first-time potters, our beginner wheel classes teach the foundations of working on the potter’s wheel, including:

  • Centering clay

  • Opening and pulling walls

  • Shaping forms

  • Trimming

  • Surface decoration

  • Glazing and finishing

Students leave with handmade pottery and the confidence to continue exploring the ceramic arts.

Handbuilding Classes

Handbuilding is one of the oldest and most expressive forms of working with clay. Using techniques such as:

  • Slab building

  • Coiling

  • Pinching

students create both functional and sculptural forms without using a pottery wheel. Handbuilding is ideal for creative exploration and offers endless design possibilities.

Intermediate & Advanced Classes

Ready to expand your skills? Intermediate and advanced classes build on foundational techniques and may include:

  • Throwing larger forms

  • Creating complex shapes

  • Lidded vessels

  • Altered forms

  • Sculpture

  • Surface decoration

  • Specialized glazing techniques

These classes are designed for students ready to deepen their craftsmanship and artistic voice.

Specialty Workshops

Throughout the year, the studio offers project-based specialty workshops focused on specific techniques, seasonal projects, and visiting artist instruction. Workshops provide opportunities to explore new creative approaches in a fun and inspiring setting.
